Hello, Smart Home
What is a Smart Home? A Smart Home is an internet connected home that allows its inhabitants to control their lighting, heating, and air, as well as other electronic devices in the home all from a smart home, Smart Hub, or a Computer. Sounds great, right?
Security and Surveilance
In case you're wondering what exactly a Smart Home would consist of, here's a breakdown: In Security and Surveillance, Smart Homes generally have Smart Cameras, Locks, and Alarms that are much higher tech than your run of the mill alarm system that simply goes off whenever the alarm is triggered. That still happens with Smart Homes, but the Homeowner has control over these aspects of Smart Home Security. They can control the cameras, send voice messages warning any intruders to leave the property, set what conditions the alarm goes off to (if the camera sees an intruder, the alarm goes off) in addition to the Homeowners families voices being the only disabling conditions for the alarm system. the Smart Locks are also set to unlock only when the Homeowner arrives or when their trusted device (In most cases the Owners smartphone or a key fob) is present to unlock the Smart Lock. These aspects of Smart Home Security are amazing and simple to setup for your Smart Home.Lighting and Electronics
Another smart aspect of a Smart Home is the Lighting and Electronics connected to it. Home owners are able to set the lighting, use of power outlets, and even change the colors of their lights (If the Smart Bulb permits color changing, that is) all from the comfort of the Smart Hub, smart phone, or tablet. Smart Homes have many possibilities for connectivity. You could program your Smart Home to set your thermostat to a comfortable temperature and turn on the lights you'll use so when you enter your home from a long day at work, you're coming home to a comfortable well lit home that already has your tv on and set to your favorite channel.Home Theater System
For those with home theaters that are curious if they could connect their Smart Home system to a home theater, well you're in luck, you can even control your home theater system just by saying a command to your Smart Hub, or you could use your smartphone to control your home theater for those moments where you're watching movies with the family and don't want to talk.Benefits of Smart Homes
Smart Homes are very beneficial in comparison to a "Dumb Home" or a home that has no smart components in them. You can make sure that your doors are in fact locked, your alarm is on and if any visitors are home, especially those unwanted ones. All this can be done without having to move from your seat as well as anywhere you have a data connection.Heating and Cooling
Having a Smart Home also allows you to save on heating and cooling your home. When a family takes a long vacation to get away from the coming winter weather they can remotely lower the temperature enough not to warm the home, to keep all things inside safe from frost, but low enough to save on the energy bill. I know when we went out of town my mother would turn off the thermostat so it wouldn't turn on in the winter while we were away. She did the same thing in the summer. It would either be hot or cold when we returned home. A Smart Thermostat, connected to a Smart Hub linked to your smartphone allows any parent or person to set the temperature remotely to create the most welcoming temperature while you're away.Independence and Peace of Mind
Smart Homes provide independence to those who may lost it and want to regain it, helping perform simple tasks at home with just the sound of their voice. Or family members can monitor their family members, making them feel safe or at ease while giving the individual the independence that they need.Having a Smart Home isn't just about having the latest technology or to say your home is the best or you're hip to the technology game. It's saying that you have safety, security, and peace of mind.
